1) Evening exams: These usually begin at 5:00 p.m. for midterms,
and 6:30 p.m. for final exams. Dates of these evening exams are
posted in the Schedule of Classes, to enable you to make class and
work arrangements accordingly so that you are free to take the evening
exams at the scheduled times.
2) Administrative forms and petitions: Students can bring
late add-drop and other administrative forms and petitions to the
Core office for signature vs. seeking out the course instructors.
Verification of medical disability and other excused absence documentation
are to be hand delivered to the Core office for proper handling.
3) Academic dishonesty: this includes all forms of cheating
and plagiarism, will not be tolerated. As a student and member
of the University community, you are expected to demonstrate honesty
in all of your academic endeavors. For more information and some
helpful resources, consult the UCLA Dean of Students website at:

Final Examination Policies
Final examinations, unless otherwise announced by the instructor, are held in the same room as class
meetings. Examination codes are listed for each course in the Schedule of Classes, in the Study List
selections on URSA, and on the printouts of updates that are available in the forms area counter next to 1104 Murphy Hall.
An instructor's method of evaluation must be announced at the beginning of the course. Final written
examinations may not exceed three hours' duration and are given only at the times and places established
and published by the department chair and the Registrar's Office (Senate Regulation A-332A). In planning
courses for a term, students are responsible for avoiding class conflicts and avoiding conflicting or
multiple same-day final examinations. No student shall be excused from assigned final examinations except
as provided in the following paragraphs.
Policy on Alternate Examination Dates
In compliance with Section 92640(a) of the California Education Code, the University must accommodate
requests for alternate examination dates for any test or examination at a time when that activity would
not violate a student's religious creed. This requirement does not apply in the event that administering
the test or examination at an alternate time would impose an undue hardship which could not reasonably be
avoided.
Accommodation for alternate examination dates are worked out directly and on an individual basis between
the student and the faculty member involved.
- In general, students should make such requests of the instructor during the first two weeks of any given
academic term, or as soon as possible after a particular examination date is announced by the instructor
- Students unable to reach a satisfactory arrangement with their instructor should contact the Office of
Ombuds Services, 105 Strathmore Building, or the Office of the Dean of Students, 1206 Murphy Hall, for assistance
- Instructors who have questions or who wish to verify the nature of the religious event or practice involved
should contact the Office of Ombuds Services or the Office of the Dean of Students for assistance
This policy has been reviewed and approved by the Academic Senate Undergraduate Council. Faculty members should
remember that while it is fully in their discretion to make arrangements with individual students for alternate
examination times, including final examinations, faculty members must conduct the scheduled final examination for
the class as a whole at the times and places established by the department chair and the Registrar's Office.

Revision 6/16/06: tn
UCLA Policy on Incomplete grades from the on-line General Catalog
Incomplete Grades
Once an Incomplete (I) grade is assigned, it remains on the transcript along with the passing grade students
may later receive for the course. The instructor may assign the (I) grade when work is of passing quality but
is incomplete for a good cause (such as illness or other serious problem). It is the student's responsibility to
discuss with the instructor the possibility of receiving an (I) grade as opposed to a nonpassing grade.
If an (I) grade is assigned, students may receive unit credit and grade points by satisfactorily completing the
coursework as specified by the instructor. Students should not reenroll in the course; if they do, it is recorded
twice on the transcript. If the work is not completed by the end of the next full term in residence, the (I) grade
lapses to an F, NP, or U as appropriate. The College or school may extend the deadline in unusual cases (not applicable
to graduate students).
The Life Sciences Core discourages the assignment of Incomplete for any student who has performed more that one
standard deviation below the average on midterms, or who is missing a midterm exam. This is in keeping with the policy
from the UCLA General Catalog, which states that the student's work must be complete and passing.
The Dean of Students Office is 1206 Murphy Hall, (310) 825-3871.
Lab Grade Transfer Policy - Life Sciences 2 and 3
- Students who took LS 2 and LS 3 within the past academic year, and are repeating the course,
have the option of using their prior lab grades without attending the laboratory portion of the course.
This policy applies to the laboratory portion only!! This policy does not transfer any points earned
from the discussion section portion or lecture portion of LS 2 and LS 3.
- The lab grade transfer policy is available to students who finished all of the labs in a previous quarter,
including those who dropped or withdrew for the course.
- Only the entirety of the previous lab grades will be transferred. This includes any labs that were missed
or the student earned zero points. No partial lab grade transfers will be allowed.
- The decision to request to transfer lab grades should be made before the end of the first
lab week. The teaching assistant (TA) should be notified of this decision immediately. The
decision to transfer lab grades is irreversible once submitted.
- Points earned from the laboratory questions on the final exam from the previous quarter
cannot and will not be transferred to the new quarter. All students requesting a lab grade
transfer are to complete the laboratory questions on the final exam in the current quarter.
- The lab grades being transferred will show up on your MyUCLA gradebook for LS 2 and LS 3
between the fourth and sixth weeks of the current quarter.
- In addition to the above, a lab materials fee will be assessed for LS 2 and LS 3 sometime after
week five of the quarter. This fee is non-refundable even if you request to transfer your grades and
are not attending the labs nor using lab materials.
